Qatar National Day 2024 celebrated

KATHMANDU: December 18, celebration of Qatar National Day, commemorating the unification of Qatar under its founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed AlThani, under whose leadership Qatar became a single cohesive entity and unified country in 1878. That historic event, laid the foundation for the modern State of Qatar as a unified, independent nation. Qatar National Day is a time to honor the legacy of Sheikh Jassim Al-Thani, who envisioned and established the State of Qatar we know today.

The day is celebrated with immense pride and enthusiasm across Qatar, while Qatari embassies worldwide host events to mark the occasion. In Nepal, the Embassy of the State of Qatar, in Kathmandu organized a series of programs to celebrate the day. Vice President of Nepal, Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, attended a dinner hosted by the embassy, where he extended his heartfelt wishes to the State of Qatar and its people. Qatari Ambassador to Nepal Mishaal bin Mohammed Al-Ansari and Vice President Yadav jointly inaugurated the Celebration by cutting the cake.

During the event, Ambassador Al-Ansari spoke about the strong diplomatic ties between Nepal and Qatar, which have flourished since their establishment in 1977. He praised the contributions of Nepali workers to Qatar’s development and prosperity and indicated to the historical visit of His Highness the Emir in April of this year to Nepal, which reflected the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries. In addition, witnessed signing of eight MoUs and agreements for cooperation between the governments of the two countries.

Ambassador Al-Ansari reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s aspirations for prosperity and deepening the bonds between the two nations.

It was decidedto honor this day of every year as an official holiday under decree no. (11) In 2007, issued by His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Crown Prince and Heir Apparent then on 21 June 2007.

The day of 18 December is the day of celebrating the memorable moment when Qatar achieved national unity and became an independent state. This day is also an expression of love, pride and gratitude to the great people of Qatar, who stood in solidarity and swore an oath of loyalty and obedience to their leader, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed AL-Thani. In December, various celebrations and events are held to introduce Qatar’s heritage and appreciate the authentic customs and traditions of the Qatari community that enhance the pride of the state.
