Nepal Rastra Bank resumes services from rebuilt Thapathali office

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has resumed its Banking and Currency Management services from its newly rebuilt Thapathali office starting today, December 16. The office, damaged in the devastating 2015 earthquake, had been out of operation for nearly a decade, with all services temporarily shifted to the Baluwatar office.

The central bank announced the relocation last week, marking the completion of the new building at Thapathali. NRB stated that this move is part of a phased relocation plan, with the Banking and Currency Management Department being the first to return.

The Banking Department oversees all banking-related operations, while the Currency Management Department handles functions such as currency exchange and liquidity management. NRB is currently operating through 18 departments, ensuring a wide range of financial and economic services.

This relocation is expected to enhance operational efficiency and accessibility for the public and financial institutions. The restored Thapathali office symbolizes resilience and progress, showcasing Nepal Rastra Bank’s commitment to providing improved services despite past challenges.

Further phases of the relocation plan are anticipated, with other departments potentially moving back to Thapathali in the near future.
