KATHMANDU: For the past three days, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has been disconnecting power lines for certain industries due to outstanding dues for dedicated lines.
On Friday, the NEA targeted major players such as Jagdamba Steel, Reliance Spinning Mills, Ghorahi Cement, and Arghakhanchi Cement, cutting off their electricity supply.
According to the NEA, Jagdamba Steel is indebted with Rs 4.14 billion for the dedicated line, while Reliance Spinning Mills has an outstanding amount of Rs 1.94 billion. Ghorahi Cement and Arghakhanchi Cement face arrears of Rs 1.36 billion and Rs 1.3 billion, respectively.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal issued explicit instructions on Thursday to collect unpaid dedicated line arrears, emphasizing the importance of streamlining the tax system and imposing penalties, including power disconnection, for industries neglecting their electricity dues.
In response, the affected industrialists have confirmed the ongoing power cutoffs by the NEA.
