KATHMANDU: The Department of Tourism (DoT) today issued the first climbing permit since the procedure was halted from March 13.
The department issued the climbing permit to a Nepali team of six members led by Dawa Steven Sherpa for an expedition to Mt Barunste (7,129 meters).
“We are at the moment in the midst of a pandemic and there are problems everywhere but we want to overcome this deteriorating situation. We wish the team all the best,” said Mira Acharya, who heads the mountaineering section at DoT.
The government had decided not to issue climbing permits for spring expeditions on March 13 due to the risk of the coronavirus pandemic.
