KATHMANDU: Three American vaccine manufacturers have conveyed Nepal that they are not in position to supply Covid-19 vaccines immediately.
Issuing a press statement, Embassy of Nepal in Washington, USA said that Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Novavax have confirmed that they cannot supply vaccines to Nepal before 2022.
Nepal had requested to buy 5 million doses from Johnson & Johnson and 2 million doses from Moderna.
On June 17, 2021, a virtual dialogue was held between Johnson & Johnson and a representative of the Ministry of Health and Population. During the meeting, representative of Johnson & Johnson said that the possibility of supplying vaccines before 2022 is low.
Another US vaccine manufacturer, Moderna, has stated that it is not in a position to export the vaccine immediately. Moderna said the vaccine could not be exported until next year as global vaccine supplies were affected.
