Rs 5.17 billion spent so far for Covid-19 prevention and control

KATHMANDU: The government so far has spent Rs 5.17 billion for the prevention and control of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

As per the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the amount to this effect has been spent on procuring RT-PCR kits, extraction kits, viral transport media (VTM), antigen kits, masks, gowns, surgical gloves, oxygen system reinforcement, ICUs and other medical equipment.

However, the given amount does not include expenditure on activities that were carried out for the prevention and control of COVID-19 including risk allowance to health workers, free testing and treatment, purchase of vaccines and various drives.

The government has allocated Rs 14 billion for the purpose of vaccine procurement, and COVID-19 prevention and treatment.

“Despite the political turmoil in the country, the health ministry is constantly fighting against the pandemic,” said Health Minister Hridayesh Tripathi, adding that the government is negotiating with the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Russia and other countries regarding the procurement of vaccines against corona
