Chinese firm Star Charge to build EV charging stations across Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has awarded a Chinese firm to build 50 charging stations for electric vehicles in the Kathmandu valley and along the highways.

As per NEA, Jiyansu Guangdong New Energy Technology (Star Charge), out of other 13 companies submitting their application for the project, has been awarded the project.

Sagar Mani Gyawali, head of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure and Construction Project of NEA, informed that the agreement will be signed between the Chinese company and the authority within March. “Following the agreement, the Chinese company will be responsible to procure necessary materials and install charging stations in designated places and also carryout maintenance works of these stations for five years,” said Gyawali.

As per NEA, these charging stations will have infrastructure like transformer, low-high transmission line, software and communication, payment gateway for the payment of bills.
