KATHMANDU: Domestic airline operators have threatened to launch a protest if the government does not give them permission to resume flight operations from September 1. Issuing a press statement, the Airline Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN), the umbrella organization representing domestic airline companies, opposed the continuous restrictionson the operation of local flights though many countries across the world have already resumed domestic flights. Though the government had announced that domestic and international flights would resume from August 17, it later revoked its earlier decision and stated that the suspension of flight operations would continue till September 1 citing the increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases. “Various countries have allowed operation of domestic flights by adopting safety protocols. Resuming flights is essential to ensure the sustainability of the domestic aviation industry and mobility of people,” reads the AOAN statement, adding that operators will be obliged to start a protest if the government fails to resume flight operations even after September 1.
