KATHMANDU: Subisu, a prominent internet service provider (ISP) in Nepal, has successfully renewed its operating license for the next five years. This comes after the company settled outstanding dues amounting to NPR 313.8 million with the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).
According to NTA spokesperson Santosh Paudel, Subisu paid NPR 174.8 million in royalties and an additional NPR 138.9 million towards the Rural Telecommunication Development Fund (RTDF). Following the payment, the license renewal has been granted, effective from January 9, 2025 (Poush 25, 2081 BS).
In recent months, the NTA had imposed strict measures on ISPs that failed to clear their dues, including halting foreign exchange facilities. The authority has been actively addressing overdue payments to ensure compliance within the sector.
WorldLink, another leading ISP, recently renewed its telecom license for 25 years after clearing NPR 2.15 billion in dues. Subisu, facing similar regulatory pressure, settled its outstanding payments to secure its license extension for five years.
The renewal of Subisu’s license highlights increased accountability among ISPs in Nepal, driven by regulatory enforcement. The NTA has emphasized the importance of timely payments to sustain infrastructural development and expand digital connectivity nationwide.
The move reflects the government’s push for compliance within the telecommunications sector, ensuring that service providers contribute their share to national development funds like the RTDF. The renewed license will enable Subisu to continue providing uninterrupted internet services, benefiting thousands of customers across Nepal.
