Major highways across Nepal remain paralyzed due to continuous downpour

KATHMANDU: The continuous rainfall since Thursday night has blocked roads at more than 68 locations on various highways across the country. While efforts are being made to operate vehicles in one direction in some places, most roads remain completely obstructed. According to the police, 68 places on 23 different highways have been completely damaged, while transportation can be operated one-way in 380 places.

The Nagdhunga-Muglin, Muglin-Pokhara, Narayanghat-Muglin, Beni-Jomsom, BP Highway’s Kavre and Sindhuli sections, Araniko Highway’s Sindhupalchowk section, and Pushpalal Highway’s Sindhuli, Khotang, and Okhaldhunga sections are the most affected.

Roads leading in and out of Kathmandu are completely blocked. Even on the third day, no vehicles have left Kathmandu. Vehicles coming into the valley are stranded midway. The Dakshinkali-Sisneri road, which provides entry to the valley, is fully obstructed. Police have reported that the Sisneri road section remains blocked. Similarly, the road in front of the Service Commission of Tribhuvan University is also obstructed, and the Balkhu-Farping road section is fully blocked as well.

The Prithvi Highway, which enters Kathmandu via Thankot, is blocked in Chandragiri Municipality, Ward No. 2. The Lele-Tikabhairav road is fully obstructed in Godawari Municipality, Ward No. 6, according to police.

The Kanti Lokpath, which leads into the valley from Bagmati Province, is blocked at Ghattapakh in Makwanpur. The Bhimphedi-Kulekhani-Fakhel road is obstructed in Sukoura, Indrasarobar Rural Municipality-2. The Kanti Lokpath section in Aapchaur and Lamrang of Makwanpur is also blocked.

In Koshi Province, the Ranke-Bhedetar road in Chaubise Rural Municipality-1 of Dhankuta is blocked. The Diktel-Gaighat road is obstructed in Diprungchuichumma Rural Municipality-4 of Khotang. A landslide has blocked the Mechi Highway in Maikhola, Ilam.

In Udayapur, floods have obstructed the Siddhicharan Highway in Ward No. 2 of Katari Municipality. Landslides have also blocked the Siddhicharan Highway in Chanoute, Katari Municipality-14.

The Tribhuvan Highway is fully blocked in Tistung Deurali, Thaha Municipality, Ward No. 11. It is also blocked in Ward No. 5 of Thaha Municipality. Landslides have obstructed the Kulekhani-Markhu road in Indrasarobar Rural Municipality-1. The Sisneri-Dakshinkali road is obstructed in Indrasarobar Rural Municipality-3.

The Pasang Lhamu Highway is blocked by floods in Timure Bazaar, Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa. Landslides have also blocked the highway in Medafudung, Gosainkunda Rural Municipality. The BP Highway is obstructed in Charsebesi, Ward No. 8 of Roshi Rural Municipality, Kavrepalanchok.

In Sindhuli, the Mid-Hill Highway is blocked by landslides in Golanjore Rural Municipality, Ward No. 6, and also in Ward No. 2 of Fikkal Rural Municipality.

The police reported that the Madan Bhandari Highway is obstructed in Hariharpurgadhi Rural Municipality.

In Dhading, six locations, including one in Dhunibesi and Thakre Rural Municipality, three in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, and Chiraudi in Galchi Rural Municipality, are blocked on the Prithvi Highway.

In Sindhupalchowk, the Araniko Highway is blocked in Paharigaun, Ward No. 11 of Chautara Sangachokgadhi Rural Municipality. The highway is also obstructed in Larcha and Liping of Bhotekoshi due to bridge washouts.

The Bansdeu-Chautara road section in Ward No. 11 of Chautara Sangachokgadhi Rural Municipality is blocked by a landslide. In Pokhare of Sindhupalchok, the same road section is also blocked by landslides. The Barhabise-Tatopani road is obstructed in Barhabise Municipality Ward No. 5. The Ramechhap-Sindhuli road, connecting Khurkot, is blocked in Manthali Municipality Ward No. 6.

In Gandaki Province, the Kaligandaki Corridor road is blocked in Ward No. 3 of Gaindakot Municipality. Similarly, the Beni-Darbang road is obstructed in Ward No. 6 of Malika Rural Municipality, Myagdi. The Siddhartha Highway is blocked in Walling Municipality-13 of Syangja.

The Siddhartha Highway is also blocked in Kerabari, Tinau Rural Municipality, Palpa. The Palpa-Gulmi road is obstructed in Tansen Municipality, Palpa. The Gorusinge-Sandhikharka road is blocked in Bhuvanpata, Ward No. 2 of Shitganga Municipality, Arghakhanchi.

The Rukum-Ghorahi road is blocked in Tribeni Rural Municipality, Rolpa. Roads are also obstructed in Ward No. 2 of Madi Rural Municipality. The Tamghas-Ridi road is blocked in Chhatrakot, Gulmi. The Dang-Salyan road is obstructed in Ward No. 3, Ramri, of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City. The Karnali Corridor is blocked in Sarkegad Rural Municipality, Humla.
