KATHMANDU: Renowned tourism entrepreneur Ambika Shrestha, manager of Nepal’s iconic and luxurious Dwarika’s Hotel, passed away on Thursday morning at Medicity Hospital, family sources have confirmed.
Ambika Shrestha was a prominent figure in Nepal’s tourism industry, significantly contributing to the country’s travel and hospitality sectors. She also served as the head of the Spanish Consulate in Nepal and was married to Dwarika Prasad Shrestha.
Following the death of her husband in 1991, Shrestha took full responsibility for managing Dwarika’s Hotel. Under her leadership, the hotel maintained its esteemed reputation and goodwill, becoming a symbol of excellence in the hospitality industry and a top destination for luxury travel in Nepal.
Shrestha was also a passionate advocate for improving working conditions for women entrepreneurs in Nepal. Her contributions to the business community and her commitment to social causes have left a lasting impact.
In recognition of her outstanding service, she was awarded the Cross of the Order of Civil Merit by His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
