KATHMANDU: KP Sharma Oli has been appointed as the Prime Minister of Nepal. On Sunday, President Ram Chandra Poudel appointed Oli as the Prime Minister in accordance with Article 76(2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Oli’s claim to the position was backed by the UML (Unified Marxist Leninist) party and other political factions, including the Nepali Congress. This appointment follows a significant political development on Friday, when former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal failed to secure a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives. In response, President Poudel invoked Article 76(2) and called for claims to the Prime Minister position from candidates with the support of two or more parties.
Promptly after the President’s announcement, Oli submitted his claim, demonstrating the necessary parliamentary support. This swift action underscored his readiness to take on the leadership role once again.
The oath-taking ceremony for the newly appointed Prime Minister Oli is scheduled for 11 AM tomorrow. This event marks Oli’s return to the prime ministerial office, bringing with it expectations of political stability and continued governance efforts.
Oli’s political journey has been marked by multiple terms as Prime Minister and significant influence within Nepalese politics. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to navigate the current political landscape and address ongoing national issues.
The swift transition and appointment signify a critical moment for Nepal’s political environment, as stakeholders and citizens look forward to Oli’s leadership in steering the nation forward.
