Huawei ‘Seeds for the Future Nepal’ 2024 opens registration

KATHMANDU: Huawei has officially opened the registration for its ‘Seeds for the Future Nepal 2024’ program today. Undergraduate students interested in this opportunity can register via the dedicated website www.seedsnep.com until June 9. The announcement was made during the inauguration event held in Kathmandu.

Now in its fourth consecutive year, ‘Seeds for the Future Nepal’ aims to enhance the ICT ecosystem in Nepal. Through comprehensive sessions focusing on digitalization, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability, Huawei has been pivotal in fostering a robust ICT environment in the country.

Huangjun, CEO of Huawei Nepal, shared his insights on the program’s significance: “This program embodies Huawei’s commitment to nurturing the brightest minds and fostering technological innovation and cross-cultural exchange. The experiences and knowledge gained through this program will empower our young talents to become leaders in the digital transformation of Nepal. They are the seeds that will grow into the future innovators, entrepreneurs, and tech leaders of the nation.”

Chen Song, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, highlighted Huawei’s longstanding commitment to Nepal, stating, “Huawei is a leading provider of ICT solutions that has been dedicated to building a better-connected world for 25 years in Nepal. The Seeds for the Future program is a shining example of nurturing young talent and fostering innovation in Nepal. This initiative reflects the values of knowledge sharing and capacity building, crucial for the advancement of any society.”

Bishwo Babu Pudasaini, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, emphasized the transformative impact of Huawei’s presence in Nepal.

He said, “The presence of Huawei has been truly transformative, not only through their business endeavors but also through their continuous support of local talent programs like Seeds for the Future. Campus recruitment, knowledge transfer, and university collaborations have provided our young minds with invaluable opportunities to grow and excel in the ICT sector.”

Michael Croft, Head of Office and UNESCO Representative of Nepal, also spoke about the global partnership between UNESCO and Huawei. “UNESCO and Huawei have a global partnership working worldwide to advance science, technology, and education because we share common values in these areas. This initiative aligns with the international decade for science and sustainable development, and it’s an auspicious way to advance what the decade calls us to do.”

Bhola Thapa, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, underscored the importance of nurturing local talent. “In an era defined by rapid technological advancement, the importance of nurturing local talents cannot be overlooked. Huawei’s Seeds for the Future program stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and mentorship in unlocking the potential of our students, empowering them to become the architects of digital Nepal.”

Shashidhar Ram Joshi, Dean of the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University, noted the program’s impact on students. “Programs like Seeds for the Future are very impactful for our students. I’ve seen our students gain invaluable ICT skills, empowering them for the digital age. This program equips our youth to drive innovation, foster entrepreneurship, and propel Nepal’s growth in the global tech landscape.”

Program Structure and Opportunities

This year, Huawei has established a diversified jury board involving government, academia, and industry experts. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology co-organizes the program, with UNESCO as a strategic partner.

The two-month competition involves multiple phases, including interviews, assignments, and presentations. The winner of the ‘Seeds for the Future Nepal’ will have the exciting opportunity to travel to China for onsite training and regional competition. During their visit, they will attend seminars on cutting-edge technological innovation presented by industry experts.

Established in 2008, the program has positively impacted over 15,000 students from 139 nations, forged partnerships with more than 500 universities and colleges, and garnered endorsements from over 450 senior officials and heads of state.

Adhikari further highlighted the program’s global impact, noting that it is one of the longest-running CSR programs in the world. “Through this program, more than 18,000 students in 141 countries have benefited since its launch in Thailand in 2008. We believe that talented Nepali students will compete in the regional round and shine on global stages.”
