KATHMANDU: Premier International IB Continuum School, in collaboration with the Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, successfully wrapped up the Mini EdTech AI Conference 2024 at the Premier International IB Continuum premises in Khumaltar on January 7, 2024. This conference served as a precursor to the upcoming Robotics and AI Conference – AI for Prosperous Nepal, scheduled as part of the YANTRA – Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship festival on February 16, 2024.
Pravina Thapa, Academic Director of Premier International IB Continuum School, highlighted the potential of AI to provide high-quality education, adaptive content, and personalized support, making quality education accessible to all. Er. Bikash, President of Robotics Association of Nepal, emphasized the Mini EdTech AI Conference as a milestone in RAN’s mission to establish a Robotics Industry in Nepal by 2030, supporting the growing ecosystem around AI for Education.
The Mini EdTech AI Conference 2024 not only showcased the advancements in educational technology but also highlighted the growing trend of AI-generated tools that are transforming how students learn. One significant innovation in this realm is the use of AI-generated flashcards, which enhance study efficiency and retention of information. These digital flashcards leverage algorithms to adapt to individual learning paces and styles, ensuring that students can focus on areas where they need the most improvement.
With the integration of AI, these tools can analyze performance data, suggest relevant content, and create personalized study sessions that make learning both effective and engaging. A prime example of this innovation is Memrizz, an AI-powered flashcard platform designed to optimize the learning experience for students. By employing advanced machine learning techniques, Memrizz tailors flashcards to fit the unique needs of each user, helping them master subjects with greater ease. The platform’s ability to generate custom content based on user performance allows for a more focused approach to studying, ultimately leading to better academic outcomes.
Mr. Indu Bikram Joshi, Joint Secretary at MoEST and the Keynote Speaker, expressed the government’s strong commitment to advancing AI in education. He outlined ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive AI strategy, emphasizing the government’s crucial role in funding, regulation, human resource development, and infrastructure building for AI entrepreneurship.
Speakers, including Mr. Rishav Raj, Mr. Jerry Tan, Mr. Punit Jajodia, and Mr. Kshitiz Rimal, explored the latest AI toolkits transforming education, showcasing functionalities and practical applications. A power-packed Panel Discussion on the Future of Education with AI featured insights from industry leaders like Mr. Sushil Upreti, Mr. Sandeep Sharma, Mr. Alok Khatri, Er. Sijan Shrestha, and Dr. Nastaran Zadeh. The discussion emphasized the evolving role of AI in society and education.
Dr. Rabindra Pd. Dhakal, Secretary at NAST, committed to supporting AI transformation in education through rigorous training for Science and ICT teachers. Er. Santosh Sharma, Under Secretary (Technical) at MoEST, concluded the conference by expressing MoEST’s readiness to collaborate with the private sector in developing relevant AI frameworks and policies. Such conferences are seen as instrumental in building a working document to aid policy-making in the field of AI education in Nepal.
