KATHMANDU: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has banned foreign employment in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar for motorcycle and taxi driver positions. The department has published a notice and informed all concerned about this decision.
The DoFE has decided to stop the pre-approval, stating that most of the workers who went to these positions in the UAE and Qatar are in trouble.
Krishna Prasad Bhusal, information officer of the department, said that there has been an increase in the complaints of the workers going there to work as motorcycle and taxi drivers not getting the minimum salary as per the approval demand letter.
According to him, the department has taken this decision as accidents have increased due to the lack of knowledge and experience related to traffic rules and road discipline of the respective countries. Similarly, there are complaints that most of the workers have to pay huge fines due to the fact that they cannot get a license easily and they have to stay unemployed for a long time.
The department has decided to stop the pre-approval as it is not considered safe to send workers to the UAE and Qatar for the posts of motorcycle and taxi drivers. According to the department, this rule will remain in force until further decision.
It is mentioned in the notice published by the department that the Nepali embassies in Qatar and the UAE have also been requested not to verify the demand for these posts.
