Kathmanduties to receive water supply from Melamchi from November

KATHMANDU: Water supply from the Melamchi Drinking Water Project will be resumed from November after the cleaning of headworks is completed in the stipulated time.

According to the Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee (MDWDC), it has expedited the construction of the approach road to the headworks of the project. The authority stopped supplying water from the project citing the risk during the rainy season.

Rajendra Prasad Panta, spokesperson for the MDWDC, said the maintenance of an alternative road that connects the headworks has started. “If the repair work is completed in the estimated two weeks’ time, the cleaning of headworks will be started,” Panta said.

The approach road that connects the headworks is 6.5 km long. After the completion of maintenance work, the MDWDC will be supplying 170 million liters of water from the Melamchi River to the Valley. From this year, the authority plans to supply the water of the Melamchi River also to the denizens of Bhaktapur district.
