Tribhuvan International Airport sees over 2.26 million passengers in Q1 2025

KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) handled a staggering 2,263,569 passengers in the first three months of 2025, marking a significant surge in air travel, according to Jagannath Niraula, chief of the TIA office.

The data highlights a higher volume of international travelers compared to domestic passengers, with 1,185,090 international and 1,078,479 domestic passengers recorded from January to March.

International Travel Surges

Of the international passengers, 603,361 departed Nepal, while 584,729 arrived, with March seeing the highest traffic at 424,522 travelers. A total of 7,443 international flights (3,722 takeoffs and 3,721 landings) were operated during this period. Additionally, TIA facilitated the export of 3,651 tons of goods and the import of 2,587 tons, underscoring its role as a key trade hub.

Domestic Travel Thrives

On the domestic front, 548,357 passengers traveled from Kathmandu to other destinations, while 530,113 arrived in the capital. March recorded the highest domestic traffic with 407,775 passengers. A total of 22,316 domestic takeoffs and landings were recorded, with February and March showing strong growth in flight operations.

Buddha Air Dominates Domestic Market

Buddha Air led the domestic aviation sector, serving 629,500 passengers and capturing a 58.33% market share. Yeti Airlines followed with 234,147 passengers (21.71%), and Shree Airlines carried 196,016 passengers (18.17%).

The robust passenger and cargo traffic at TIA reflects Nepal’s growing connectivity and economic activity, with the airport continuing to serve as a vital gateway for both tourism and trade in 2025.
