NRN Association publishes election schedule for unity convention in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has released the election schedule for its Unity Convention, set to take place in Kathmandu from May 3–5, 2025 (Baishakh 20–22, 2082). The convention aims to elect new leadership for the NRNA’s International Coordination Council (ICC) for the 2025–27 term.

The Election Committee announced the schedule via a press release on Wednesday. Key dates include:

April 25 (Baishakh 12): Publication of the preliminary voter list.
April 28 (Baishakh 15): Publication of the final voter list.
May 3 (Baishakh 20): Candidate nomination filing.
May 4 (Baishakh 21): Voting from 8 AM to 4 PM in Kathmandu.

The election will select 36 ICC office bearers, including 1 President, 6 Vice Presidents (open), 1 Vice President (women), 1 General Secretary, and other positions. Delegates certified by the High-Level Committee must pay the designated nomination fee to file candidacies.

The Election Committee, formed by a High-Level Committee under a Supreme Court mandamus, is led by Senior Advocate Gopal Krishna Ghimire as Chief Election Commissioner, with retired Major Damar Ghale and Advocate Ashish Uprety as members. The committee has urged all stakeholders to support a free, fair, and transparent election in line with the Unity Convention’s objectives.

The NRNA, representing Nepalis living abroad, aims to unify its leadership and strengthen its global network through this convention.
