Janata Agro and Forestry partners with Kasetsart University to boost Nepal’s agricultural prosperity

KATHMANDU: A landmark agreement has been signed between Janata Agro and Forestry, a leading Nepali agricultural enterprise, and Thailand’s prestigious Kasetsart University to enhance food production in Nepal through organic technology. The signing ceremony took place on April 2, with Dr. Krit Won-In, Vice President of Kasetsart University, and Pawan Golyan, Chairman of Janata Agro and Forestry, formalizing the collaboration. This partnership aims to promote sustainable development in Nepal’s agricultural sector, introduce innovative farming techniques, and improve the livelihoods of Nepali farmers.

The collaboration between Janata Agro and Forestry and Kasetsart University focuses on integrating cutting-edge modern technologies into Nepal’s organic farming practices. Key areas of cooperation include advanced plant care strategies, innovative harvesting methods, and techniques to boost production and quality. This initiative builds on Janata Agro’s ongoing efforts to promote organic farming in Nepal, leveraging Kasetsart University’s globally recognized expertise.

Pawan Kumar Golyan, Chairman of Janata Agro and Forestry, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration marks a significant step toward transforming Nepal’s agricultural sector. The invaluable expertise and skills from Kasetsart University will empower us to provide farmers with modern agricultural tools, leading to increased productivity and long-term change in Nepal’s agriculture.”

The partnership is expected to play a pivotal role in equipping Nepali farmers with modern farming processes, enhancing the quality of agricultural produce, and strengthening its competitiveness in global markets. It includes regular workshops, research studies, and training programs to facilitate seamless knowledge transfer between the two institutions. A dedicated joint team from both sides will oversee the project’s implementation.

The university will also conduct training on new approaches to crop conservation, soil improvement techniques, natural pest management solutions, and preventive strategies.

Kasetsart University will introduce Janata Agro to new technologies and methodologies to sustain its organic farming initiatives effectively. Addressing the challenges currently faced by Nepal’s agricultural sector, Janata Agro is exploring diverse opportunities to identify production potential and creatively commercialize agriculture. This includes soil testing, new conservation methods, value addition, processing, and quality assurance, with a focus on strategies to improve the quality of organic products.

This agreement is expected to facilitate Nepal’s journey toward expertise in organic production. By adopting modern technologies, the collaboration aims to boost agricultural output, achieve self-sufficiency in food production, and enable Nepal to export its products to global markets, thereby earning foreign currency. Janata Agro and Forestry, established with the goal of making Nepal’s agricultural sector self-reliant and creating a distinct identity for Nepali products worldwide, has been collaborating with investors in Thailand to promote Nepali produce through various programs.

Meanwhile, following a bilateral meeting between Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, several agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed and exchanged today at a government building in Bangkok, further strengthening ties between the two nations.

This collaboration between Janata Agro and Forestry and Kasetsart University signals a promising future for Nepal’s agricultural sector, blending local innovation with global expertise to drive sustainable growth and prosperity.
