AmCham Nepal showcases Nepal as country of possibilities in US outreach program

KATHMANDU: AmCham Nepal, in collaboration with the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), successfully organized a U.S. outreach program, participating in the Shared Services & Outsourcing Week (SSOW) in Orlando and eMerge Americas in Miami. This initiative highlighted Nepal’s growing potential as an emerging market for business process outsourcing (BPO) and information technology-enabled services (ITES).

A delegation of 11 members, representing seven different Nepalese companies, engaged with major U.S. firms such as PwC, Infosys, Capgemini, Cognizant, Wipro, and SAP, effectively showcasing Nepal’s IT and outsourcing capabilities. The outreach program aimed to create business connections and position Nepal as a strategic partner for U.S. companies looking to leverage Nepalese talent in the ICT sector.

James Donovan, CEO of AI Innovation, praised the Nepali delegation, stating, “Many exhibiting companies and organizers embraced the Nepalese delegation as a strategic partner and appreciated the talents and skill sets showcased through participating companies.” The delegation also met with senior officials from various global corporations, generating significant interest in Nepal’s ICT industry.

Tech Peak Nepal, an ICT governing body established in 2024, played a crucial role in fostering this optimistic platform. Tech Peak has been instrumental in sustaining ICT economic growth and positioning Nepal as a valuable ICT partner for inclusive national development. The initiative has gained national momentum and pride as a significant force in Nepal’s digital transformation.

AmCham Nepal also led the Tech Peak delegation to eMerge Americas, one of the largest technology conferences in Miami, Florida, featuring representatives from 60 countries. Additionally, AmCham organized key meetings with Derek Emphre from the Orlando Economic Partnership and officials from the Florida State Government. The delegation was invited as special observers by Mr. TJ Villamil, the business head of eMerge Americas, underscoring the growing recognition of Nepal’s ICT potential on the global stage.

Ajit Bikram Shah, the leader of the delegation, Founding Chair of AmCham Nepal, and Head of the CNI IT Council, emphasized the significance of this initiative in positioning Nepal as a hub for hiring talent in BPO, KPO, IT, ITES, and other industries. “This program has demonstrated that Nepal is an emerging market for global outsourcing. The private sector’s collaboration with the Government of Nepal in such initiatives will create more opportunities and foster stronger international partnerships,” Mr. Shah stated.

Expressing gratitude, Mr. Amir R. Thapa, General Manager of AmCham Nepal, thanked all participants and reaffirmed AmCham’s commitment to fostering economic partnerships. “It’s time to capitalize on Nepal’s economic potential. AmCham will continue to create more platforms like this to enhance market access. We need to come out and tell our stories, and AmCham will play a pivotal role in getting those stories out,” said Mr. Thapa.
