KATHMANDU: One month after the approval of the Data Center and Cloud Services Directive, the government has called on service providers to register under the new regulation.
The Department of Information Technology (DoIT), under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, has issued a notice requiring service providers to complete mandatory registration within six months by submitting the necessary documents.
The government aims to encourage the secure and confidential storage of data generated from government, public, and private sectors within Nepal. To achieve this, it has urged data center and cloud service providers to comply with the registration process.
According to the Data Center and Cloud Services (Operation and Management) Directive, service providers must register with the DoIT before launching their services. Those already operating prior to the issuance of the directive must complete registration within six months. This means data center and cloud service providers now have only five months remaining to register with the department.
Service providers seeking to operate a data center must submit applications with details on 13 specific criteria, while those offering cloud services must provide information on nine key aspects as part of the registration process.
