KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has called for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the assets of all leaders holding public office. During a meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, RSP Vice President Swarnim Wagle emphasized that a judicial commission should be established under the Inquiry Commission Act to scrutinize the wealth of leaders in public positions.
Wagle referenced the property laundering case filed against RSP Chairman Ravi Lamichhane, stating that the party will now vigorously push for the investigation of leaders’ assets.
He also stressed the need to investigate all ongoing controversies. “We will demand parliamentary inquiry committees to probe each and every ongoing case, from Bhutan to Cambodia, from Widebody to Ncell, and from Baluwatar to Giribandhu. We must thoroughly investigate all these matters,” Wagle said.
He accused the government of initially ignoring his party and now launching aggressive attacks against it. “The past four months have been unfavorable for our party. In the first phase, they ignored us, a party with a significant youth presence. In the second phase, they mocked us. Now, in the third phase, they are attacking us,” he said. “Our chairman was detained for 84 days. They acted as if they were seeking revenge, first detaining him and then searching for evidence.”
Wagle accused the state machinery of targeting Lamichhane out of vengeance. “Today, our respected chairman Ravi Lamichhane is not present here. He won twice, securing 50,000 votes each time,” he said. “He has been suspended on money laundering charges. We have submitted a request to the Speaker. We will now pursue legal remedies. The entire state machinery has been weaponized against Ravi Lamichhane out of revenge.”
