NASIT commends government’s efforts in advancing Nepal’s IT industry

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Association for Software and IT Services Companies (NASIT) has expressed its gratitude to the Government of Nepal for recent reforms aimed at fostering the growth of the information technology (IT) sector. These changes, introduced through an ordinance, are expected to enhance the industry’s global competitiveness and attract foreign investment.

The ordinance addresses key legal and procedural barriers in the IT sector, paving the way for increased opportunities. NASIT, which has long advocated for such reforms, believes this step will significantly boost Nepal’s IT industry. The association also highlighted the importance of timely implementation of these provisions through proper directives and guidelines from relevant authorities.

“This ordinance is a positive signal to domestic and foreign investors. It will create a conducive environment for IT growth and support economic transformation,” read NASIT press statement.

The government has outlined ambitious goals for the IT sector, including exporting IT products and services worth NPR 3 trillion within the next decade. Additionally, it aims to create 500,000 direct jobs and 1 million indirect employment opportunities in the sector. NASIT views the ordinance as a critical step toward achieving these targets.

The association emphasized the need for collaboration between the government, private sector, and stakeholders to ensure the reforms translate into tangible benefits. It expressed its commitment to working closely with all parties to develop the necessary infrastructure, improve business policies, and attract foreign investment in the IT sector.

Nepal’s IT industry has been steadily evolving, with increasing contributions from domestic and international investors. This progress reflects the sector’s potential to become a cornerstone of the nation’s economy. NASIT also pointed out the rising demand for skilled IT professionals and the need to create more employment opportunities in the sector.

“The government’s reforms are a step in the right direction, but effective coordination and execution are essential to make these initiatives successful,” the NAS-IT statement read.

“NASIT believes that strengthening Nepal’s IT ecosystem will not only boost economic growth but also establish the country as a key player in the global IT landscape.”

This development underscores Nepal’s commitment to modernizing its economy and leveraging technology to create sustainable growth opportunities for businesses and individuals alike.
