Commercial Banks Report NPR 30.59 Billion Net Profit in Five Months

Credit crunch looms as commercial banks grapple with liquidity mismatch

KATHMANDU: Publishing the financial statistics of banks and financial institutions for five months, Nepal Rastra Bank has reported that commercial banks achieved a net profit of NPR 30.59 billion during this period. The central bank mentioned that banks’ profits increased by 37% in December compared to November.

Nabil Bank registered the highest profit during this period, earning a net profit of approximately NPR 3.5 billion. Similarly, Global IME Bank secured the second position with a net profit of NPR 2.83 billion, followed by Nepal Investment Mega Bank in third place with a net profit of NPR 2.49 billion.

Additionally, Kumari Bank earned NPR 1.99 billion, Prime Commercial Bank NPR 1.97 billion, Everest Bank NPR 1.94 billion, NMB Bank NPR 1.90 billion, and Prabhu Bank NPR 1.84 billion in net profit.

Nepal Bank Limited reported a net profit of NPR 1.51 billion, Standard Chartered Bank NPR 1.37 billion, Nepal SBI Bank NPR 1.34 billion, Himalayan Bank NPR 1.33 billion, and Rastriya Banijya Bank NPR 867.2 million.

Similarly, Siddhartha Bank achieved a net profit of NPR 979.0 million, Citizens International Bank NPR 694.9 million, and Sanima Bank NPR 904.1 million.

Machhapuchhre Bank earned NPR 827.4 million, while NIC Asia Bank reported a net profit of NPR 633.4 million.

However, Agriculture Development Bank incurred losses during this period, as per the five-month preliminary statistics of Nepal Rastra Bank. The upcoming financial statements to be published by banks in a few days will provide further clarity.
