Nepali passenger dies of heart attack mid-air on Kuwait-Kathmandu flight

KATHMANDU: A Nepali passenger tragically passed away onboard a Himalayan Airlines flight (H9572) en route from Kuwait to Kathmandu early Friday morning. The individual reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack during the journey, prompting the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Muscat, Oman.

The flight, which departed Kuwait at 2:34 AM local time, encountered the medical emergency a few hours into the flight. Despite the crew’s swift response, the passenger’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Upon landing in Muscat, medical personnel examined the individual and confirmed the death onboard.

Following the confirmation, the aircraft was redirected back to Kuwait. Airline officials stated that the deceased passenger’s body will remain in Kuwait for medical and legal formalities. Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to transport the remaining passengers to Kathmandu.

The flight, originally scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu at 9:10 AM, is now expected to reach Tribhuvan International Airport at approximately 7:00 PM.

The identity of the deceased passenger remains undisclosed, and further details are awaited.

This incident has raised concerns about the adequacy of onboard medical facilities and emergency response protocols for long-haul flights. Airlines are urged to prioritize passenger health and safety to prevent such unfortunate events in the future.
