Tourism Recovery Hits a Milestone
The number of tourists in 2024 is the highest since the COVID-19 pandemic, surpassing the figures of 2019, when 1,197,191 foreign tourists visited Nepal.

Tourist arrivals were nearly stagnant from 2020 to 2022 due to the pandemic. However, recent data from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) indicates that Nepal’s tourism sector has recovered by 96% in the past six months alone, signaling a robust rebound.

Events Driving the Surge
Several national and international events have played a pivotal role in boosting tourism this year. These include:

World Buddhist Conference
International Balloon Festival
Dragon Boat Festival

Various fairs and exhibitions held domestically and abroad

These events have not only highlighted Nepal’s cultural richness and natural beauty but also created opportunities for international engagement, attracting tourists from across the globe.

A Promising Future for Tourism
With this remarkable increase, Nepal’s tourism industry is poised for further growth in 2025. Efforts to promote cultural and adventure tourism, coupled with infrastructure development, are expected to sustain this momentum and reinforce Nepal as a premier global travel destination.
