KATHMANDU: The Nepal Association for Software and IT Services Companies (NAS-IT) hosted a panel discussion titled “Nepal in the Global IT Arena: Journey from National Award to a Global Platform”. The event brought together industry leaders, government representatives, and participants from the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2024 to explore Nepal’s emerging role in the international ICT landscape and discuss pathways for sustained growth and innovation.
In his opening remarks, NAS-IT President Santosh Koirala emphasized collaborative efforts to nurture innovation, enhance global competitiveness, and build a thriving tech ecosystem.
A keynote address by Anil Kumar Dutta, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, provided an in-depth analysis of Nepal’s standing in the global IT sector, sharing his experience as a judge in APICTA Awards 2024. He highlighted the critical role of government support, international collaboration, and participation in platforms like the APICTA Awards in fostering innovation and economic growth.
The panel discussion, moderated by Anish Shrestha, Economic Coordinator of APICTA, featured notable speakers, including Nikesh Singh of Ekagajpatra Pvt. Ltd., Santosh Tamrakar of IMS Software Pvt. Ltd., Rajesh Tandukar of Trilokya Pvt. Ltd., and Yujesh Maleku of Alpas Technology Pvt. Ltd.
The panel discussion emphasized the importance of MVP testing in international markets to build confidence and refine pitches, while highlighting the need for clarity in award categories to enhance participation strategies.
Discussions underscored the social impact of technology, Nepal’s progress in AI integration, and the significance of networking opportunities at events like APICTA. Panelists called for stronger government support, improved IP protection, streamlined freelancer regulations, and financial aid for students from outside the valley.
Recommendations included fostering innovation through education, a shift to a “Think Local, Act Global” strategy, and encouraging collaboration among companies.
The event showcased Nepal’s competitive edge in ICT and its potential to thrive on the global stage.
The event concluded with positive reflections on Nepal’s presence at the APICTA Awards, underscoring its potential as a global tech innovator. The next APICTA Awards will be held in Chinese Taipei, Taiwan, in 2025 and NASIT looks forward to sending more participants to represent Nepal on this prestigious platform, remaining determined in its commitment to fostering innovation, collaboration, and growth, aiming to position Nepal as a rising star in the global ICT arena.
