KATHMANDU: Huawei Nepal celebrated a major milestone with the inauguration of the Huawei Nepal Exhibition Center at Huawei Tower, Hattisar. The event, held today, was graced by the presence of the Honorable Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, who officially inaugurated the exhibition center. This new hub will showcase the latest trends and innovations in the ICT sector and strengthen Nepal’s digital future.
Following the inauguration, the closing ceremony of Huawei’s flagship CSR initiative, Seeds for the Future 2024, took place. The program, aimed at empowering Nepalese youth through ICT education and innovation, saw distinguished guests, including government officials, industry leaders, and students, gather to celebrate its success. Huawei Nepal’s Chief Executive Officer, Huang Jun, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the company’s long-standing contributions to Nepal’s digital transformation.
This event also marked an important milestone, as it celebrated Huawei Nepal’s 25 years of shaping the country’s telecom and ICT infrastructure. Over the years, Huawei has played a crucial role in advancing Nepal’s technology landscape, contributing to the expansion of telecom services and driving innovations in ICT. The newly inaugurated Exhibition Center symbolizes Huawei’s continued commitment to supporting Nepal’s journey toward a digital future.
During the event, Huawei also announced the conclusion of the Seeds for the Future 2024 program. The highlight of the closing ceremony was the recognition of the Nepali student team that participated in the Tech4Good 2024 competition, a regional phase of the Seeds for the Future initiative. The team won the People’s Choice Award for their innovative project, *Ultra Care*, which aims to improve healthcare access in underserved rural communities. Their project proposes the use of portable ultrasound machines for pregnant women, utilizing AI to monitor fetal health. The students were acknowledged for their creativity and the potential social impact of their idea.
Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung praised Huawei’s efforts to empower Nepalese youth, saying, “It is inspiring to see how Huawei has created a platform for our youth, encouraging them to develop innovative solutions that can significantly impact Nepal’s socio-economic growth. I thank Huawei and our students for bringing Nepal’s pride to the global stage. Huawei’s contribution to Nepal’s ICT and telecom sector has been invaluable, and I believe the exhibition center will inspire further collaboration and progress towards a Digital Nepal.”
Huang Jun, CEO of Huawei Nepal, shared his excitement, stating, “For 25 years, our guiding motto has been ‘In Nepal, for Nepal.’ We are proud of the impact we’ve made in Nepal’s ICT development. We believe that youth are the seeds for our digital future, and we’ve worked hard to nurture their ICT skills. The exhibition center is an important platform for sharing knowledge, and we will continue to support Nepal’s digital journey through collaborative efforts.”
Linhai, Board Director of Huawei South Asia, also expressed pride in the achievements, saying, “Today marks two significant milestones for Huawei in Nepal—the inauguration of the Huawei Exhibition Center and the successful conclusion of the Seeds for the Future Nepal 2024 program. Since its launch in Nepal in 2019, Huawei’s Seeds for the Future program has provided global exposure and leadership skills to many students. This year, over 300 applications were received, and 30 students were selected for the program, which included technical training, masterclasses, and collaborative projects. Six top-performing students were chosen to represent Nepal at the Asia-Pacific Digital Talent Summit 2024 in China, where they gained invaluable international experience.
