KATHMANDU: Celebrating five decades of collaboration in Nepal’s energy sector, the Nepal Government, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Photojournalists Club Nepal have organized a week-long photo exhibition at the Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal. The event, which began on December 3 and runs until December 9, showcases the transformative work accomplished during this partnership.
The exhibition was officially inaugurated by State Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Purna Bahadur Tamang. Joining him at the event were Mr. Suresh Acharya, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation; Mr. Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA); Mr. Amaud Cauchois, Country Director of ADB Nepal Resident Mission; and Ms. Kristine Hauge Storholt, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Nepal.
Organized in collaboration with the Photojournalists Club Nepal, the exhibit aims to provide visitors with an immersive visual narrative of the achievements and progress made in Nepal’s energy sector over the past fifty years.
In his inaugural speech, Minister Tamang expressed gratitude to ADB for its invaluable support. “Many positive advancements have been achieved in Nepal’s energy sector recently. We are deeply appreciative of ADB’s efforts to enhance the country’s energy infrastructure,” he said.
ADB Country Director Amaud Cauchois highlighted the bank’s long-standing partnership with the Nepal Government. He detailed ADB’s contributions to improving electricity generation, transmission, and distribution systems, as well as enhancing energy sufficiency and boosting Nepal’s export potential.
NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising underscored the critical role of ADB’s support in large-scale hydropower projects and alternative renewable energy initiatives. He remarked, “ADB’s assistance has been pivotal in shaping Nepal’s energy landscape. We look forward to an even stronger partnership in the years to come.”
The exhibition is thoughtfully organized into four sections—Generation, Transmission, Distribution, and Beyond the Meter—offering visitors a comprehensive view of Nepal’s energy evolution. Each section highlights the milestones achieved, including advancements in hydropower projects, expansion of energy transmission networks, improvements in electricity distribution systems, and innovations in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
The event not only commemorates the remarkable achievements of the Nepal-ADB partnership but also inspires a vision for future collaborations to further strengthen Nepal’s energy sector and promote sustainable development.
Visitors are encouraged to attend the exhibition, which remains open to the public until December 9, to witness the visual journey of Nepal’s energy progress and celebrate this significant milestone in Nepal-ADB cooperation.
The exhibition is divided into four sections; Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Beyond the meter.
