Experts provide cybersecurity training to NMB Bank Managers

KATHMANDU: The NMB Bank organised a special training session for its managers early this week to strengthen their understanding of cybersecurity and their role in keeping the bank secure. The session was led by Niranjan Kunwar, Chief Technology and Security Officer at Genese Solution, and Sampanna Shrestha, Information Security Consultant.

The three-hour session covered important topics, including how cyber threats like phishing, ransomware, and insider attacks affect the banking industry. It also provided practical steps for both personal and organisational security.

During the training, managers learned how they could set an example by following and enforcing security rules within their teams. Case studies of past cyberattacks helped participants understand the potential impact of security failures and the importance of staying prepared. The trainers shared simple ways to improve personal digital safety, such as enabling multi-factor authentication and being cautious online.

The session included live quizzes and polls, making it engaging and easy to understand.

“Banks are among the biggest targets for cybercriminals, so it’s essential for managers to take an active role in preventing attacks. This training was about giving them the tools and confidence to do just that,” said Niranjan Kunwar, who brings with him over 25 years of experience in global cybersecurity.

The trainers also stressed on the importance of balancing people, processes, and technology in building a strong security system. They highlighted how managers can help by ensuring their teams follow cybersecurity policies, responding quickly to incidents, and staying updated on the latest threats.
