Flooding in Sisneri Bazaar after Kulekhani Dam release, 30 houses swept away

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has led to a dramatic rise in the water level of the Kulekhani Dam, which has now reached its maximum level of 1,530 meters. The dam was opened to prevent overflow, resulting in severe flooding in the Sisneri River. The sudden flood has swept away 30 houses and sheds in Sisneri Bazaar, Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-3.

Bhojraj Neupane, Assistant Police Inspector and in-charge of the Sisneri Police Post, confirmed that the floodwaters also washed away the area’s police office building along with several homes. The release from the dam caused swift and destructive floods, severely affecting local infrastructure.

In addition to the destruction in Sisneri Bazaar, 28 houses in Khanikhet, located in Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-2, were submerged. While property damage is extensive, police have reported that no human casualties have occurred so far.

Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as the water levels in the river remain dangerously high. Residents are advised to stay on alert, and further updates on the flood situation and safety measures are expected. The continuous rain has exacerbated flood risks across the region, with emergency services mobilized to assist affected communities.
