Continuous rainfall disrupts power supply, half of Kathmandu valley affected

KATHMANDU: Continuous heavy rainfall has disrupted the electricity supply in many areas. The damage to transmission and distribution infrastructure caused by the rain has impacted the power supply.

According to Chandan Kumar Ghosh, spokesperson for the Nepal Electricity Authority, half of Kathmandu Valley’s power supply has been affected. He mentioned that while the normal electricity demand in the valley is around 400 megawatts, only 200 megawatts were supplied on Saturday.

Areas like Godawari, Imadol, Lubhu, and Chyasal in Lalitpur, supplied from the Baneshwor substation, are affected. Feeders supplying power to Khopasi, Nalinchowk, and Bode in Bhaktapur are down. Other areas like Kirtipur, Bagmati, Kalimati, and Kalanki are also impacted.

Spokesperson Ghosh stated that teams have been deployed to restore power as soon as possible, but rising river levels and flooding are causing significant challenges.
