KATHMANDU: The Office of the Company Registrar has temporarily suspended its online company registration services following an interim order issued by the Supreme Court (SC). The suspension is in response to a legal dispute regarding the software used in the online registration system.
The Registrar’s office was in the process of transitioning to a fully digital registration platform with the introduction of new software. However, a lawsuit was filed challenging the use of this software, prompting the SC to intervene with a temporary order. As a result, all online registration services have been paused, and it remains unclear when the system will resume operation.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had issued an injunction against several decisions made by the Registrar’s office on July 3, August 1, August 25, and September 1. The apex court’s order instructed the office to halt the implementation of those decisions, leading to a complete halt of the online services.
The indefinite suspension has raised concerns among businesses and entrepreneurs who rely on the Office of the Company Registrar for timely company registration and compliance services. The uncertainty surrounding the legal proceedings has left many waiting for clarity on when normal operations will resume.
The outcome of the ongoing legal battle could significantly impact the future of online company registration in Nepal, potentially delaying the country’s push toward a digital governance system.
