Preliminary report submitted on the Saurya Airlines crash investigation

KATHMANDU: The committee formed to investigate the crash of a Saurya Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara on July 24 has submitted its preliminary report to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation. The initial findings point to a significant reduction in takeoff speed as the primary cause of the crash. Additionally, the report highlights an imbalance in the aircraft’s load during takeoff.

The committee conducted a basic review of the aircraft’s paperwork and technical checks to prepare an informative preliminary report. For the final report, the committee has stated that a more detailed technical investigation will be carried out.

Five key areas have been identified for further investigation: the aircraft’s weight and balance, takeoff speed, the flight approval process, human factors, and the safety management system. The committee has also provided recommendations to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal regarding safety measures, urging them to revise the procedures for granting flight permissions with three key suggestions.
