KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has announced a reduction in fuel surcharges for domestic flights, effective from Tuesday, following a decrease in aviation fuel prices by the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC). This move is expected to bring some relief to passengers as the cost of flying across various destinations within the country will be lowered.
According to the CAAN, the reduction in fuel surcharges ranges from Rs 20 to Rs 265, depending on the destination. The most significant reduction is for flights to Biratnagar and Nepalgunj, where the surcharge has been cut by Rs 265. Meanwhile, the smallest reduction applies to flights to Lukla and Phaplu, with a decrease of Rs 20.
This adjustment comes in response to NOC’s decision to lower aviation fuel prices by Rs 5 per liter. For flights to easily accessible destinations, the fuel surcharge is now set at Rs 4,212.82 per passenger per hour. In contrast, for flights to remote destinations, the surcharge is Rs 50.16 per passenger per minute.
The CAAN’s decision to reduce the fuel surcharge is aligned with the broader effort to ensure that passengers benefit directly from the decrease in operational costs following the reduction in fuel prices. This adjustment is particularly significant for frequent flyers and those traveling to distant or remote locations within Nepal, where fuel surcharges constitute a substantial portion of the ticket price.
As fuel prices continue to fluctuate, CAAN is committed to regularly reviewing and adjusting surcharges to reflect changes in fuel costs, ensuring fair pricing for air travelers across Nepal.
