Chinese vehicles dominate NADA Auto Show 2024; event features 130 stalls including insurance and bank displays

KATHMANDU: The NADA Auto Show 2024, (the Chinese Auto Show !), officially commenced today at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. The event was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel at the exhibition hall. Organized annually by the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal, the Auto Show is a prominent platform for showcasing various vehicles.

The Auto Show 2024, which kicked off on Tuesday, will run until Sunday, August 31. This year’s exhibition highlights a significant presence of Chinese vehicles, with over 70 percent of the vehicles being from China, particularly electric vehicles. The remainder of the vehicles are from India and other third countries.

In his inaugural address, Finance Minister Paudel emphasized a shift in perspective regarding the automobile sector. He reassured the public that the government is committed to supporting businesses and encouraged anyone facing issues to report them directly to his office. Paudel also praised the transition from trading to production-focused activities, describing it as a positive development for Nepal’s automobile sector.

NADA President Karan Chaudhary also voiced the need for the government to address its previous neglect of the automobile sector, which he believes will benefit from increased attention and support.

This year’s NADA Auto Show marks its 16th edition and places a strong emphasis on electric vehicles (EVs). NADA Auto Show Coordinator Anup Baral highlighted the extensive efforts made to ensure the efficient organization of the event.

The show features a diverse range of participants, including 23 brands of passenger cars, 19 brands of motorcycles and scooters, 14 brands of light commercial vehicles, and 26 component brands. Additionally, there are stalls from Shikhar Insurance and seven banks. In total, 130 stalls are set up for this year’s Auto Show.
