Cabinet appoints Prof. Dr. Shivaraj Adhikari as Vice-Chairman of National Planning Commission

KATHMANDU: The Cabinet meeting has appointed Prof. Dr. Shivaraj Adhikari from Palpa to the National Planning Commission. The meeting held on Thursday appointed Adhikari as the Vice-Chairman of the commission, according to a minister.

The minister also informed that six other members have been appointed. Vice-Chairman Adhikari is a former head of the Central Department of Economics at Tribhuvan University. He was appointed as a member of the Planning Commission in March 2024 (Chaitra 2080 B.S.).

He has previously served as a member of the Public Expenditure Review Commission led by Dr. Dilliraj Khanal. Additionally, he has worked as a senior advisor to the National Planning Commission and a member of the Intergovernmental Financial Council.

This is his first appointment as Vice-Chairman of the Planning Commission. In 2010, he earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Dr. Adhikari has published over 100 journals and articles in the fields of economics, development issues, and public finance.
