KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has received the support of two-thirds of the MPs in the House of Representatives, solidifying his position as the head of government. Out of 275 members, 188 MPs voted in favor of the motion of confidence sought by Oli on Sunday. There were 74 votes against, and one MP abstained from voting.
A total of 263 lawmakers were present in Parliament on Sunday to cast their votes. The motion of confidence was supported by a coalition of parties, including the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Janata Samajwadi Party, Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, and several independent MPs.
The significant backing from these parties and independent MPs has strengthened Oli’s mandate, allowing him to continue his administration with a robust parliamentary majority. This vote of confidence comes at a crucial time, as Oli’s government faces numerous challenges and aims to implement various developmental and economic policies.
