KATHMANDU: The President of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, emphasized the immense potential of the information technology (IT) sector for Nepal’s economic development. Speaking at the international ICT discussion on “Positioning Nepal as a Global IT Hub” held on Saturday in Kathmandu, Dhakal outlined the critical role of IT in driving industrial growth and economic progress.
Rapid Development in Nepal’s IT Sector
Dhakal highlighted that Nepal has witnessed significant advancements in the IT sector in recent years, mirroring global trends. He stressed the importance of leveraging these developments to expand the IT industry and boost service exports.
“The rapid development in the IT sector offers a unique opportunity for Nepal to position itself as a global IT hub,” Dhakal stated. “We must harness this potential for the economic and industrial development of our country.”
Embracing IT for Economic Growth
Dhakal pointed out that Nepal’s youthful population is increasingly embracing information and communication technology (ICT) courses and establishing IT-driven enterprises. He noted that there are currently around 500 IT companies operating in Nepal, and the number could significantly increase with the implementation of IT-friendly policies and a conducive investment environment.
“The enthusiasm of our youth in adopting ICT and launching IT enterprises is a positive sign for our future,” Dhakal remarked. “With supportive policies and an investment-friendly climate, we can see a substantial rise in the number of IT companies in Nepal.”
Need for IT-Friendly Policies
The FNCCI President called for the state to adopt IT-friendly policies that would foster the growth of the sector and attract more investments. He argued that such measures are crucial for capitalizing on the IT sector’s potential and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
“Nepal’s future lies in creating an environment where IT can thrive,” Dhakal asserted. “With the right policies and support, we can transform Nepal into a global IT hub and drive our economic development forward.”
The international ICT discussion provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas and strategies for positioning Nepal as a key player in the global IT landscape. Dhakal’s remarks underscored the importance of strategic policy-making and investment in the IT sector to achieve this vision.
