KATHMANDU: The government has announced plans to stop the operation of night buses in districts and areas where there are signs of natural disasters.
Speaking at today’s House of Representatives (HoR) meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane stated that night buses would not be allowed to operate in places declared hazardous by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
“In the districts and areas where a red travel advisory has been issued, the transport management department and traffic police will coordinate to halt night driving,” Home Minister Lamichhane informed the HoR.
He clarified that the decision is not to stop night driving altogether but only in the districts and areas under the Red Travel Advisory.
Lamichhane also mentioned that the Department of Road and traffic police will place warning signs in areas at risk of landslides and flooding.
