KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has announced that the monsoon will become more active starting today. In a special weather bulletin released on Thursday evening, the MFD advised the public to be prepared and take necessary precautions as rainfall is expected to increase significantly.
According to the MFD, the monsoon will intensify over the next few days due to the full development of the low-pressure line situated north of Nepal. Pratibha Manandhar, a meteorologist at the MFD, stated that the weather will change across the country from Friday, with light to moderate rains expected and heavy rains possible in some areas.
From today until June 30, light to moderate rain is anticipated in many parts of the country due to the influence of monsoon air. The bulletin highlights the potential for heavy rain with thunder and lightning in several areas:
Gandaki Province: Heavy rain is expected in some areas. Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces: Several places may experience heavy rain. Madhesh and Karnali Provinces: One or two places might see heavy rain.
The bulletin also mentions the possibility of heavy rain in one or two places in Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces.
MFD officials have urged vigilance due to the risks associated with the intensifying monsoon. These risks include thunder and lightning, heavy rain, soil erosion, landslides, flooding in urban and lowland areas, rising water levels in rivers and streams, and potential disruptions to daily life, road, and air traffic from today through Sunday.
Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of increased monsoon activity.
