KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MOCIT) has approved the applications of 16 candidates for the position of Managing Director (MD) of Nepal Telecommunication Company Limited (Nepal Telecom). Out of 17 applicants, 16 met the minimum qualifications.
Nepal Telecom invited applications for the MD position on June 4, with a deadline of 15 days. Among the candidates, several current employees, including acting MD Sangita Pahadi (Aryal), have applied.
The approved applicants are Rajesh Joshi, Anant Prakash Mallik, Dr. Bimal Acharya, Prem Prasad Silwal, Chinta Mani Baral, Krishna Prasad Bhandari, Anil Kumar Jha, Dr. Engineer Saligram Parajuli, and Laxman Maharjan. Additionally, the applications of Nagendra Kumar Das, Kedar Nath Koirala, Kamal Lamichhane, Ramesh Prasad Joshi, Engineer Salik Ram Subedi, and Buddhi Prasad Acharya have been approved.
Previously, Sunil Paudel, the former MD of Nepal Telecom, was suspended following a corruption case. On May 7, the Special Court sentenced him to nine years imprisonment for his involvement in a corruption case related to the national payment gateway, during his tenure at the National Information Technology Center (NITC).
