KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has announced that this year’s monsoon is expected to enter Nepal on June 13. The monsoon has already reached India’s northeastern territory, as well as Bangladesh, Bhutan, and the Indian state of Sikkim.
Rojan Lamichhane, a meteorologist at the Division, stated that there is a 35 to 55 percent chance of above-normal rainfall in most parts of Nepal during the monsoon season. This projection is based on the current meteorological patterns and the early arrival of the monsoon in neighboring regions.
Climate expert Dr. Dharmaraj Upreti provided additional insights, noting that the monsoon had reached Assam, Sikkim, and surrounding areas in India last Saturday. This progression indicates that the monsoon could arrive in Nepal’s Koshi region approximately a week earlier than anticipated.
With the monsoon air becoming more active, it is likely that Koshi Province will experience monsoon activity within the next three to five days. The early onset of the monsoon could have significant implications for agriculture and water resources across the country.
