Nepal to celebrate 2024-2034 as decade of agriculture

KATHMANDU: In a significant move to boost the agricultural sector, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun has announced that Nepal will celebrate the decade from 2024 to 2034 as the “Decade of Agriculture.” This initiative aims to significantly increase investment in agriculture through government cooperatives and private partnerships.

Presenting the budget for the Fiscal Year 2024/25 during a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Tuesday, Finance Minister Pun emphasized the importance of revitalizing the agricultural sector. “The Decade of Agriculture will be a cornerstone of our economic strategy, aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security,” he stated.

As part of this initiative, the government plans to identify specific agricultural pocket areas to focus efforts and resources, thereby boosting production. The initiative will involve collaboration between government agencies, cooperatives, and private enterprises to drive investment and innovation in agriculture.

“We will work on identifying key agricultural zones and concentrate our efforts on increasing production in these areas,” said Pun. “This approach will help us achieve higher yields, improve quality, and ensure that our agricultural sector thrives.”

The announcement underscores the government’s commitment to transforming Nepal’s agricultural landscape, enhancing the livelihoods of farmers, and contributing to the nation’s overall economic growth.
