KATHMANDU: All flight landings at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have resumed following the emergency repair of potholes on the runway that had caused a temporary suspension of both domestic and international flights.
The damage to the runway led to an interruption of flight operations for approximately 45 minutes. TIA Spokesperson Subas Jha confirmed the halt and subsequent resumption of flights. “All domestic and international flights were stopped for about 45 minutes. Now all flight landings have resumed,” Jha stated.
The repairs were carried out swiftly to minimize the disruption, ensuring the safety and continuity of flight operations. Passengers experienced brief delays, but normalcy was restored quickly after the completion of the maintenance work.
The temporary suspension underscored the critical importance of runway maintenance for ensuring the safe operation of flights at Nepal’s busiest airport. The TIA management has assured travelers and airlines that measures are being taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
This incident highlights the need for continuous monitoring and timely maintenance of airport infrastructure to support the growing air traffic at TIA, which serves as a vital gateway for both domestic and international travel in Nepal.
