KATHMANDU: In a landmark move aimed at addressing historical injustices and instilling hope among the populace, Nepal’s ruling alliance unveiled its Common Minimum Policy, Priorities, and Resolution on Tuesday.
Led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the coalition of parties including CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist) presented a comprehensive plan at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar.
Key highlights of the policy include:
Transitional Justice and Anti-Corruption Measures: The government pledges to conclude transitional justice processes and launch investigations into corruption spanning various eras. This initiative aims to hold corrupt individuals accountable and restore faith in the justice system.
Economic Reforms: The policy outlines measures to rejuvenate the economy, including reforms to activate the share market, mobilization of climate financing, and objective assessment of past periodic plans to ensure effective implementation of future plans.
Peace and Reconciliation: Emphasizing the importance of establishing lasting peace, the government commits to addressing the grievances of conflict survivors through justice, compensation, reparation, amnesty, and reconciliation.
Social Welfare: Efforts will be made to provide medical treatment, employment, self-employment opportunities, and rehabilitation to those affected by conflict, including the families of survivors. Additionally, plans are in place to release individuals unjustly imprisoned during past unrest, in line with previous agreements.
Bishnu Paudel, coordinator of the coalition working group, reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, stating, “Corrupt individuals will face legal consequences, and victims of historical injustices will receive the support they deserve.”
