KATHMANDU: The Bansbari Land Case has taken a significant turn as the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has decided to interrogate Nepali Congress lawmaker and businessman Binod Chaudhary regarding the controversy surrounding the Bansbari land issue, which involves 10 Ropanis of land linked to a government shoe factory.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane issued directives on Sunday for the police to obtain a statement from Chaudhary regarding the Bansbari shoe factory’s land case. The CIB has been tasked with bringing Chaudhary in for questioning as part of their ongoing investigation.
In addition to this, Home Minister Lamichhane has initiated steps to place the 10 Ropanis of land belonging to the Bansbari shoe factory under government control. Instructions have been relayed to Home Secretary Eknarayan Aryal, Inspector General of Nepal Police Basanta Kunwar, and CIB Chief AIG Shyam Gyawali to commence the necessary procedures promptly.
Previously, on the 18th of Magh, Arun Chaudhary, the brother of MP Chaudhary, was apprehended by the CIB. However, on the 24th of Magh, he was granted interim bail following an order from the Kathmandu District Court.
District Judge Yagya Prasad Acharya’s decision mandated cooperation with the ongoing investigation, allowing Arun to be released on interim bail to facilitate the remaining inquiries.
Subsequent to the court’s ruling, Bansbari shoe factory’s former executive chairman Ajit Narayan Singh Thapa and another businessman, Sanjay Thakur, who were also detained alongside Arun, were released on the same day.
