KATHMANDU: In a historic aviation feat, Shree Airlines’ CRJ 700 9N – AMB aircraft embarked on a mountainous journey from Nepalgunj Airport to the sacred Kailash mountain and Mansarovar lake in Tibet, China. The remarkable flight, aimed at facilitating pilgrimage to these revered sites, took place on January 29, 2024.
According to the airline, the venture to witness Kailash and Mansarovar through this mountain flight has been deemed successful. This marks the first-ever such flight from the Nepali territory, attracting Nepali, Indian, and international tourists, as well as religious pilgrims. The airline considers this a significant achievement not only in tourism but also in economic activities.
Shree Airlines collaborated with Temple Trip Group, India, Siddhartha Hospitality Group, Nepalgunj, and Pathil Holidays, Kathmandu, for the Kailash and Mansarovar pilgrimage mountain flight, conducted at an altitude of 27,000 feet. The flight, led by Captain Prafulla Baidya and Captain Rajesh Shrestha, included 44 passengers and a crew of five.
The airline informed that out of the 35 passengers on board, all were provided with window seats for an optimal view of Kailash and Mansarovar during the flight. Shree Airlines plans to extend the itinerary by organizing a visit to Pashupati in Kathmandu for all the travelers upon their return from the spiritual journey.
This successful endeavor opens up new possibilities for Nepalgunj as a gateway for pilgrimage-related air travel. Shree Airlines, with its collaborative efforts and dedication, aims to make Kailash and Mansarovar accessible to all interested travelers, adding a spiritual dimension to mountain flights from Nepalgunj.
