KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has addressed concerns regarding the agreement with India, stating that there is no need to overly worry about India’s direct spending of Rs 200 million in Nepal through its embassy.
In a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, where the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee convened, the Prime Minister reassured the committee members that the recent investment agreement with India does not grant India the authority to unilaterally choose or implement projects.
PM Dahal emphatically stated, “There is no provision in the recent agreement with India that allows India to select or implement projects unilaterally. The Nepal government will play a crucial role in reviewing project updates and conducting regular inspections of the project’s status. Hence, there is no need to stress over other aspects of the project.”
Highlighting the transparency and oversight mechanisms in place, PM Dahal emphasized that decision-making power resides firmly within the mechanisms of the government of Nepal. He further assured the committee and the public that the government would actively monitor and review the progress of any projects initiated under this agreement.
The Prime Minister’s clarification comes amid concerns and discussions surrounding the agreement with India, aiming to alleviate any misunderstandings and emphasize the collaborative nature of the projects outlined in the agreement.
