KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) plans to undertake an extensive examination of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) in light of significant concerns regarding their flight safety practices.
In a communication issued on Monday, the CAAN notified NAC about an upcoming continuous three-day audit set to commence on December 6. In response to suspicions of substantial flaws in flight safety, a team from the CAAN’s flight safety department conducted a random inspection on Monday.
Raju Shrestha, Chief of the Air Safety Department, emphasized in the letter that NAC should make all necessary preparations for the detailed audit, scheduled to start at 10:30 AM on Wednesday.
The CAAN’s audit will specifically concentrate on assessing NAC’s safety management system. The European Union (EU) has also identified severe lapses in NAC’s safety management system. The EU’s report explicitly stated, “NAC’s safety management systems and operational compliance are deficient and insufficient to identify and manage risks.”
